On August 23rd, 2021 we went to The Works Museum to give kid a hands on experience with robotics and STEM. We brought our competition robot form last year and some Spheros. We also demoed for a Lego robotics camp that was happening at the same time. Along with this we handed out flyers with information on how to get kids involved with robotics and FIRST.

AVHS Open House

On August 30th, 2021 we set up a booth at our schools open house. We did this to get the student body interested in robots and to get more participation in both the FRC and our team at our school. We got a few people signed up. We emailed some teacher to talk about it in there class and we are hoping this also get more people signed up.

Info Night

After the open house we also had an info night so we could explain the program and give people a better understanding of the robotics program at AVHS. We got a few people interested in FRC and at least one person interested in joining the Iron Maidens.

Kickoff Presentation

On September 18th, 2021 we gave a presentation on game analysis at kickoff. We hope that doing this helps other teams and also helped us dive deeper into our own game analysis. We also went to other presenatation at kickoff.

Valley View Middle Robot Demo

On September 23rd, 2021 we were invaded by Valley View middle school to go and demo a robot to get more kids interested in the program they are starting. The event was organized by Valley View middle and Team 7000 No Gizmos. Two other FTC teams were there No Gizmos and King Pins.

U of M Summer Robotics Summit

We submitted a video to the U of M robotics team for there Summer Robotics Summit. The video was about our game analysis and we hope it will help new FTC team. Video link here

Design Review with John Wolf

Screen Shot 2021-12-19 at 1.33.45 PM.png

We have done design reviews with John in the past and have always found them really insightful. This time we learned all about torque and found out how it is applied to the robot as well as the math behind it. We also found out how to strengthen our robot so the drivetrain is a lot more structurally sound. We are hoping that this will make the autos a lot more concentrated and will allow us to more during auto. We also used this design review as a jumping off point for our discussion about what we want to change for the next qualifier.

Design Review with Uponor

This is another review that we like to do each year where we meet with engineers from uponor. This year we met with Travis Evens, Lucas Johnson, Felix Marinos, and Aubrey Mozer. We talked a lot about how we could use different materials on our robot and also discussed a little bit of game strategy with them. We also talked about different sensors that we can use on the robot. One was some kind of limit switch on the arm and a light of some kind that changes colors when there is a piece of fright in the intake.

Design Review with Adrienne Hester

This event was scheduled as a design review but one reason that we always like doing a review with Adrienne is that we get a lot more out of it then just tip to improve our design. This year we had a conversation about time management and how to make sure that everyone is reaching the goals they want to.

Droid December

Screen Shot 2022-02-05 at 8.46.21 PM.png

We reached out to the Bakken and asked if they would like us to demo our robot for the Droid December. This was a lot of fun. It was the first kind of outreach like this with our new team. We demoed our robot and let kids drive it around and place blocks on the tower. We also answered questions about what FRIST and FTC is and also how people can get involved with it. Overall this event was a lot of fun.

Notebook Review with Cori Roberts

Screen Shot 2022-02-05 at 8.53.25 PM.png

We reached out to Cori for a notebook review to see what we could improve about our notebook and portfolio. We found that we had a few formatting things to use and also had some inconsistencies in our design. We also talked about how we could move things to get more space for our robot. We also discussed what things we could go without and things that we needed to highlight more.

Notebook Review with Libby

Screen Shot 2022-02-05 at 8.53.25 PM.png

We have done notebook reviews with Libby in the past and they have always been really fun so we got in touch again and asked if she could do one again. We learned a lot not just about improvements for our notebook but also career and school advice. We learned a lot and know how to move forward in our notebook and got some advice to think about.

Echo Park Elementary Robot Presenations

Screen Shot 2022-02-05 at 8.54.53 PM.png

We gave multiple presentations to third grade classes that were around thirty minutes long. The presentations were about what we are working on, how we use STEM, and we had a questions segment. These presentations were on zoom. Since there we were doing the presentations for so many days we had groups for who would present that rotated. We found that over the course of the days we refined our presentation to make it as engaging as possible to the class. We had a lot of fun doing this event.

Cedar Park Elementary Robot Presentation

We gave multiple presentations to 4th and 5th grade classes that were around thirty minutes long. The presentations were about what we are working on, how we use STEM, and we had a questions segment. These presentations were on zoom. Since there we were doing multiple presentations that day we had groups for who would present. We also reached out later and invited any of the 4th and 5th graders to come and visit us and learn more about FTC at our next competition.

Design Review with Theodore Hodapp

Screen Shot 2022-02-03 at 3.24.16 PM.png

We meet with Theodore Hodapp who has a PhD in physics and worked as a professor in physics as well as helps run science nonprofits. This is the first time that we have reached out to him and the first thing with FTC that he has done. We gained a lot of good insight about each mechanism on our robot and he also suggested some design changes that we could implement. We are hoping to reach out to him next year for another design review.
